Most homeowners don’t think about water as an accessory in their home, but the fact of the matter is that water can be very soothing, and incorporating this element into your décor can make any space in your home more relaxing.

While it might seem difficult to add the soothing effect of water to your home, there are actually a few simple, yet elegant ideas that can work with any style of décor and budget.

Desktop Fountains

You’ve probably seen small desktop fountains before. In fact, they’re fixtures that can be found in many medical offices because they’re soothingnursery pillows, making any waiting area feel more comfortable.

Some homeowners even use desktop fountains on an entry table to make visitors feel immediately at ease. Where you use a desktop fountain is up to you, but finding a place for one shouldn’t be too difficult.

Wall Fountains

Instead of taking up space on flat surfaces in your home, adding a wall fountain is an exquisite way to bring in a soothing element. Wall fountains hang like art pieces, but produce the soothing sound of running water, and they are available in a variety of different sizes and styles to fit anyone’s theme of decor.

Paintings or Photographs

If you don’t have room for a desktop fountain or it just isn’t your style, adding a photograph or painting to your home that incorporates water is another option. There’s certainly no shortage of paintings and photographs out there, and you can find them in all styles, from abstract to more classical landscapes.

When it comes to choosing a painting or photograph that incorporates the specific element of water, let your décor and personal taste decide which piece is right for you. If you do choose a photograph, you may want to pick something in full-color to really benefit from the soothing properties of water.

You’ll also want to put the painting or photo in a room where you spend a good deal of time in order to really experience these benefits.

Use Blue In Your Décor

Along with adding soothing elements, like wall fountains or desktop fountains, using the color blue in your décor can create a calming effect in any room in your home. Whether you choose to use a nautical blue paint on the walls or add blue accessories in the form of throw pillows, blankets or even a rug, is up to you, but even a splash of the right shade of blue in your room can make a big difference in how your space feels.

Why Add Water?

If adding elements of water to your home seems a bit strange, you’re probably not alone. If you are new to this idea, consider the art of Feng Shui, which provides five basic elements (with water being one of the major elements) that individuals can use to balance their lives.

Even if you’ve never thought about it before, you will probably agree how soothing water can be. Add the element of water to your home and you’ll likely feel more at ease, even if you already enjoy spending time at home.

What we are doing today is to play with some mark making. I find that with making a quilt top I am often daunted by the actual quilting part. Once I have made something that I am super-excited about with all my favorite fabrics I get worried about the stitching… maybe I’ll do something I won’t like.

We will be back with another fun giveaway later today but in the meantime, here is a fun and easy granny square stocking. My dad had a few of these in his place when I was growing up, probably made? by his mom back in the 60’s based on color selection. I marveled at how they were made even when I was little, I was even a craft loving tot.

Sometimes the best things in life are simple. The girls teach me that every day. What I often take for granted, looks much more glorious in their eyes. A 5 minute brownie becomes more special with a simple twist. Just 1 extra minute for 2 extra smiles, actually, 3. I can’t help but gleam when seeing their little eyes light up. Last week, I made an ordinary batch of brownies extraordinary by simply using a cookie cutter to cut them into heart shapes. They made a great after school treat, but may make another appearance at Valentine’s Day for their friends with the classic phrase, “You’re a sweet heart.” This little twist is easy to achieve. There are a few keys to this adaptation:use a 9×13″ baking pan – it provides just the right thicknessgrease your pan welluse a cookie spatula to carefully remove your browniesdust with powdered sugar or cocoa to hide any imperfections & of course, add to the flavor! I’m always in for a little extra sugar when it comes to treats! The result – thick, chewy & pretty little Valentine’s Day treats.
